I need one for a movie project and I got into a long conversation with the owner of my local head shop about why they won’t sell crack pipes: “You sell one crackhead a pipe and they all come swarming like cockroaches”. I ended up with a plain glass one-hit pot pipe that will look fine once I age it. That was the first time I was considered a designer. I have since worked at several different theatres as both a props manager and a props designer and have several times had to explain why I switch between the two titles and when they are appropriate. My idea was to spray glue the straw to the cloth. My test piece worked great, but when I went back to do the whole cloth, I found a biting ant in my basement and I'm having a little asthma attack cleaning up the straw. I threw the straw outside and I'm sucking up the cost of the raffia and going with my original, but more expensive idea! It's not worth the actors getting bit in the butt and wheezing (especially since one is my son who has allergies! I'm sure it'll cost me a pretty penny, but the raffia will be worth it!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14180746483003186872noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7092542282339059985.post-89263904009961384072015-12-18T02:35:19.096-06:002015-12-18T02:35:19.096-06:00I like your work on the fortepiano.I like your work on the fortepiano.Victor Wonghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01356991608748995398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7092542282339059985.post-45092641901397779792015-10-04T01:10:07.045-05:002015-10-04T01:10:07.045-05:00Use an effluent pump rather than a sump pump.Use an effluent pump rather than a sump pump.grdngrlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05042275020197508644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7092542282339059985.post-55828158870438167802015-06-17T16:09:45.143-05:002015-06-17T16:09:45.143-05:00Tampon applicators are the perfect size and the pl...Tampon applicators are the perfect size and the plastic ones glide easily!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10126453750980068836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7092542282339059985.post-53816554001550926872015-02-04T09:28:07.593-06:002015-02-04T09:28:07.593-06:00Omigosh. If you don't mind sharing with me, when you constructed your own telescoping nose, how do you keep the pieces from sliding off as the nose extends? (I was thinking of using round telescoping tube that hobbyists use for scratch building). And one other question I had is what kind of cable did you use? I was also considering syringes to extend the nose, though I'm not sure if that would work (apparently other people have done it, though--I read it about it somewhere else on the internet). We used that to make a plaster duplicate of the actor's face, then sculpted our mask shape on top. Once we had that, we could create another mould that included the mask shape.
When we had our mold we filled it with Soma Foama from Smooth-On.
Casting and Molding can be a very involved process, check out the website at Smooth-On for a more detailed explanation of how to use their products.
